Alright. I have officially proven that I'm extremely lazy by procrastinating over writing in my journal, for crying out loud! Is there a Procrastinator's Anonymous out there? Maybe someone could make a public annoucement about it in Pennsylvania... which would be a PA about PA in PA. Right, then, camp!
( Venturer camp )
So, since then, not a lot has happened. I watched Paul McCartney's set during the half-time of the Super Bowl, and it was amazing. I would love to get a chance to see him live, though I doubt it'll ever happen. And then today was the start of Semester 2... I have Law, Canadian History, Data Management, and World History, though I might drop Law, since it seems the least interesting\necessary. Canadian History seems really cool... apparently, for the final project, I can use music to help illustrate the Canadian identity... :D
Oh, and I found out my final mark in English... 92%. I got 99% on the exam. 99. Freaking. Percent.

That aside, I just sent an email to my MP, Peter Adams, on same-sex marriage:
( Letter )
If you didn't guess, he's been voting in favour of same-sex marriage, so I'm really happy to have him as my MP. I really hope the bill passes... Canada is becoming one of the most progressive and liberal countries in the world, and I'm proud to call it home. I wouldn't trade it for anywhere else.
(Oh, and just for the record, Adams is a Liberal, and I support the NDP. I'd still vote for him, though, he really is a good MP, just one who unfortunately aligned himself with the Chretien camp)
Canadian politics aside, I had my French exam today, the last of the semester. I don't think I did great, but I don't think I did horrible or anything either. My final mark'll probably end up somewhere in the high seventies for that class, which kind of sucks, but English and World Issues will likely be low ninties or high eighties, so they'll make up for it in the average. Of course, now is the great time in which I don't have to worry about school one bit until Monday! There's a curious sense of freedom I always have in these few days of downtime, even moreso than over the Christmas Break, or the March Break. It's nice.
I am, of course, going to be putting these few days to good use. Tommorow morning, I'm leaving for a Venturer camp we're holding at Brookwood. We're planning on staying in the Hunt Camp cabin, as the nights will be pretty cold. The weather forecast (below) looks generally positive, though, good weather for a winter camp. This will probably be the last major update from me for a few days, then.

Oh, and lastly, here's a couple pictures I took while I was walking the dog through a woods we have near my house the other day:

First, one thing that annoys me: people who wear Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd shirts, yet have no idea what sort of music either of them did outside "Stairway To Heaven" and "Another Brick In the Wall". Stupid stupid people.
That done, Saturday was a day filled with action and adventure. From about nine until two, myself and some of the rest of my Venturer company were volunteering at Snofest, and DAMN it was cold. It started off with an air temperature of -21 and a windchill of -29, and by the time two rolled around it was -19 with a windchill of -36! We weren't able to stay outside for more than 15-20 minutes at a time; thankfully, we had a lot of volunteers, so we were able to rotate easily. We finished about an hour earlier than we expected to, since most people left due to it being so cold.
After I got home, I immeadiately went and stood under a very hot shower for about 20 minutes. That felt extremely good... lol. And shortly after that, I went to Galaxy to meet up with a bunch of people to see White Noise, as it was Aaron's 18th birthday. The movie kind of sucked, though... Adam and I were making fun of it the whole time. Like, Micheal Keaton walks on screen, "Look! Bruce Wayne!", does something "scary" in a dark room, "Turn on a light!" or starts crying, "He's sad because he lives in a university!". And he did, too... Simon Fraser. I recognized it, along with a bookstore in Victoria, and the Vancouver skyline. Note to film makers: When making a movie set in the US, make an effort to disguise Canadian landmarks. Thank you.
Then we all drove back to Aaron's house for pizza and a mini-Family Guy marathon. It was blowing snow, and he lives in Millbrook... I wound up doing 60 on the 115, a 100 km\h highway. Ah well, it was a good time anyways. Signing out.

Current Music: "Summertime" - Maynard Ferguson
I meant to post this yesterday, but I ran out of time\energy. We had the last regular season game for high school curling yesterday... we tied, 6-6. We really should've won, but I managed to miss a wide-open take-out for my last shot. THAT was frustrating, but it didn't really matter, at least, we were a lock for the playoffs going into that game anyways. So playoffs start next week, then... I'm not sure who we play, yet.
Then there was Venturers last night... we actually held investiture... I've been in the program three years, am currently President of the company, and I wasn't invested until last night. We're kinda slow on things like that. It's a pretty simple ceremony, too... you put your left hand on the Venturer flag, agree to subscribe to both the bylaws of the company and the Scout Law, then repeat the Promise. Simple, but effective.
And now, a few more pictures... thumbnailed this time. I've switched to Imageshack, which seems to be generally better than Photobucket is these days. Let me know if you prefer embedded to thumbnailed... I think this is a tad cleaner, but whatever...

American Pie
Words\Music: Don McLean
A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.
But february made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.
So bye-bye, Miss American Pie,
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die."
Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock 'n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin' in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.
I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died.
I started singin',
"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie"
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
And singin', "This'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die."
Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone,
But that's not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,
Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.
We were singing,
"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie"
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
And singin', "this'll be the day that I die.
"this'll be the day that I die."
Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singing,
"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie"
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
And singin', "this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die."
Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil's only friend.
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that Satan's spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing,
"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie"
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
And singin', "This'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die."
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn't play.
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.
And they were singing,
"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie"
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that I die.

Wow... work was the deadest I've seen it in a LOOOOONG time tonight. I was supposed to work 1800-2230, but at 2100, Christine comes up and asks me if I want to go home. An hour and half early... probably the earliest I've ever gone home. Oh well, I didn't really need the extra $11 or whatever that much, anyways.
Also, we were doing ISU presentations in World Issues today, and the last one of the class (which was supposed to be second-last) was on Education and AIDS... the discussion at the end degenerated into an all-out war between the liberals and conservatives in the class over how much money should be spent on fighting AIDS in Sub-Sarahan Africa. Admittedly, the conservatives in my class are outnumbered by about 4 to 1, but they still gave a good fight... my biggest contribution to it all was, in response to someone's argument that we should stop the funding to Africa since the people there were doomed anyways, was rather like this, in spirit, if not in the exact words:
"So, what? We just sit back and say, 'Let them die!'? Even though it may seem like an utterly hopeless situation and a waste of money, nothing is going to happen if we don't at least try to help them!"
So that was an interesting end to the class. Survey time, now...
A - Accent: Fairly normal Canadian accent... slightly stronger than most people's, I think, though
B - Breast size: Well... I'll take this as "prefered breast size", in which my answer is either a B or C cup... not too large, not too small.
C - Chore you hate: Shaving
D - Dad's name: Burton
E - Essential make-up item: Don't wear any... :p
F - Favorite perfume: I don't wear cologne, either
G - Gold or silver: Gooooooldfinger, he's the man, the man with the Midas Touch... a spider's touch...
H - Hometown: Born in Victoria, British Columbia, grew up here in Peterborough, Ontario

L - Living arrangements: I live with my parents
M - Mum's birthplace: Chatham, Ontario
N - Number of apples you've eaten: 12
O - Overnight hospital stays: Umm... one or two
P - Phobia: I hate touching seaweed... that's kind of a phobia... lol
R - Religious affiliation: Humanistic Athiest
T - Time you wake up: I prefer to wake up at 11-ish... but around 0715 on school days, 0600 (oh-dark stupid) on band mornings
U - Unnatural hair colors you've worn: I like my hair as it is
V - Vegetable you refuse to eat: Um... almost all of them.
W - Worst habit: My consistent attempts to take over the world
X - X-rays you've had: No clue... seems I have one every other time I go to the dentist
Y - Yummy foods you make: LOL... not a lot... do barbequed hamburgers count?
Z - Zodiac sign: Aquarius

I just managed to burn a mix CD that has a mere four seconds of extra space on the end. Go me!
( Track listing )
Pretty fun mix, I'd say. And the four seconds thing is pretty nice too, especially since the last track plays fine. CD aside, I work today, 5-11... that's usually a pretty good shift, and since I've had dinner before I go, I can go over to Timmy's on my half hour break. I don't normally go on my halfs, since I buy dinner at Sobeys... and don't on my fifteens, since it takes too long, and I don't have enough time to sit. So yeah... that was utterly pointless.
I have a presentation on North Korea tommorow in World Issues. I haven't done any preparation for it, at all, since it's a presentation on the huge ISU we've been working on all semester, and it's only five minutes long. I could probably get up there and talk about North Korea for an hour if I had to... I'm a freaking expert on it now. For whatever that's worth. Signing out.

So anything particullary update-worthy, now that I have LJ back? No. But that's me for you... I did watch the new Battlestar Galactica tonight, and there was much kickage of ass. The concept was really interesting...

Current Music: Petes beating the Generals
Well, I'm watching the big Canada For Asia concert benefit tonight, and so far it's been really neat. It's a great show of support by the CBC and Canadian artists and celebrities. For instance, right now, Wayne Gretzky is speaking, and I just watched none other than Ed Robertson play guitar and sing backup with Rush on "Closer To The Heart". Awesome. And BNL as a whole played earlier, doing the acoustic\bluegrass version of "One Week", with a few neat little stylistic changes.
The Hip, Blue Rodeo, Tom Cochrane... they're all to come, too. :D
Incidentally, the Petes are winning at the moment, too.
Ooo! The Hip! Good performance by them... I love how casual Bobby Baker makes guitar playing look, no matter how complex the part is...
Man... some shots of Indonesia... that looks pretty bad... :(
Hmmm... now it's someone called "Lunch At Adam's" playing... who are they? Oh well, makes for a good time to check up on the hockey game, 4-2 Petes. :D Take that Generals... gotta love being up on the old rivals!
Now Kiesha Chante is on... some sort of crappy soft-rock\pop song... with backup dancers. Freaking. Backup. Dancers. Ugh. Back to hockey. Just in time for a PETES GOOOAAAALLLL! Daniel Ryder's 18th of the season! :D
Sorry this is so random... it's kind of a stream of conciousness thing. Ack... but my sister needs the computer, so it must end... signing out.

Well, buses were cancelled again today because of ice. We had band this morning, and it went pretty well... we played "Night On Bald Mountain" for the first time in ages, and it's a really fun song. The range is pretty easy for us, and there are these triplet-eighth note rythms that keep coming back; so much fun to play! Anyway, after band there was nobody in the school, so I just left, and spent most of the day doing nothing. Though I did make some progress in my 57th time through The Lengend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I love that game... it's the Lord of the Rings of gaming. And now, a meme.

First of all, an article on the Museum of Creation. This is what I perhaps find the worst bit:
"More controversial exhibits deal with diseases and famine, which are portrayed not as random disasters, but as the result of mankind's sin. Mr Ham's Answers in Genesis movement blames the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado, in which two teenagers killed 12 classmates and a teacher before killing themselves, on evolutionist teaching, claiming that the perpetrators believed in Darwin's survival of the fittest."
I mean... gah! I have nothing against religion, but people who believe things like this just scare me, quite frankly. How can you believe that dinosuar bones are only 6,000 years old? They're FOSSILIZED! That's not something that just sort of happens overnight, it literally takes millions of years! Man... I just hate the thought of these people not allowing kids the chance to learn evolutionary theory... :(
Anyways, on a happier note, thinger from

Woo! It's the weekend! This past week of school has gone by shhhhoooooooo shhlllloooooowwwwllllyyyyyyyy. Heh. Anyways, I had two presentations and a test today... that kind of sucked. In my French presentation, which was on the history of France, I got really set in my French accent. While talking about WW2, I obviously had to say "Hitler" a couple times... most people would still pronouce it the the English way, "hit-lur", but not me... I just kept rolling in "French Mode" and said, "eat-lurh". I was proud of myself... lol.
After school, I worked 4-830... it was a pretty good shift, as it was mostly pretty quiet. We all had a fun time teasing Ashley about her crush on Kevin, which was very amusing, owing to her managing to do a good job of acting like a 12-year old girl. ;)
And after I came home, I was lucky enough to spot a show called "Blue Rodeo and Friends" on CMT in the TV Guide. It was really cool... Sarah Harmer, Ron Sexsmith and (!)Alan Doyle(!) all sang lead on a Blue Rodeo song of their choice, and they all sounded awesome, though I was obviously mostly in it for Alan. ;) They also did some interview bits, and it sounds like there's a lot of really cool history between GBS and BR. Oh, and I'd also love to be able to play guitar like Greg Keelor... he has such a spacey, ethreal quality to his playing that I just love to listen to. Signing out.

January: Okay, so jet cars are in unfortunately short supply, but yes, I am leaving for the weekend for a Venturer camp near Apsley, which is about an hour north of Peterborough on Highway 28.
February: Yup, I managed to go skating tonight, fulfilling the burning desire that was suddenly created yesterday.
March: I bought and downloaded Thursday's concert from www.barenakedladies.com and I've got to say that it's great!
April: April Fool's Day today... managed to pull off one good trick.
May: Bloody fucking hell!
June: Okay, you know that crush I mentioned a while ago?
July: Happy 137th Birthday, Canada!
August: I had typed this up a few seconds ago, but something killed it.
September: Greetings, all.
October: Alrighty, then... a rundown ofvaguely interesting somewhat un-boring things.
November: Please read this, the top entry.
December: According to this site: David McClelland, Your ideal job is a Prime Minister.

The Petes won against Brampton a couple days ago, 4-3 in OT. That puts them in first overall in the Eastern Conference, and a solid third overall in the league. Would probably be higher, too, if they hadn't had a bit of a slump early in the season.
Anyways... nice. :D
Oh, and ironically enough, no school today, because of ice. Another nice. :D

Secular Humanism
• Belief in Deity
Not considered important. Most Humanists are atheists or agnostics.
• Incarnations
Same as above.
• Origin of Universe and Life
The scientific method is most respected as the means for revealing the mysteries of the origins of the universe and life.
• After Death
An afterlife or spiritual existence after death is not recognized.
• Why Evil?
No concept of “evil.” Reasons for wrongdoing are explored through scientific methods, e.g. through study of sociology, psychology, criminology.
• Salvation
No concept of afterlife or spiritual liberation or salvation. Realizing ones personal potential and working for the betterment of humanity through ethical consciousness and social works are considered paramount, but from a naturalistic rather than supernatural standpoint.
• Undeserved Suffering
No spiritual reasons but rather a matter of human vulnerability to misfortune, illness, and victimization.
• Contemporary Issues
The American Humanist Association endorses elective abortion. Other contemporary views include working for equality for homosexuals, gender equality, a secular approach to divorce and remarriage, working to end poverty, promoting peace and nonviolence, and environmental protection.
Seems pretty accurate to me... signing out.

Anyways, that out of the way, I went to the Petes-Colts game tonight, and it was good. Our seats were good... in the south end (Petes attack twice) of the Memorial Centre, and about nine rows up. The Petes started off pretty rough, they fell behind 2-0 in the first ten minutes, including giving up one shorthanded goal, but evened the score by the end of the period... they had a total of 22 shots in the first period... yeep! The second began with another goal for Barrie, but by the end of the period, it was tied again, at three. The third began better, with the Petes scoring, but this time Barrie tied it up... at the end of three it was 5-5. There were a few close calls in over time, including what was almost a goal with 20 seconds left on a great one-man effort by Beljo, but no luck. Oh well, it was a good game anyways, and the Petes improved to 18-11-4-4, and maintain a solid lead in their division. GO PETES GO!
That done, I've got a few pictures of the game, as well as a few picture requests. For Jen, my backyard, and for Bek, my car and my shoes.

From Cat:
If we were to meet under the mistletoe, would you kiss me?
YES
MAYBE
NO WAY
Then copy and repost! see who wants to kiss you!
And from Jen:
Basically the idea is, you guys request what you want to see pictures of... my clothes, shoes, house, car, neighbourhood --- honestly, whatever...
So just request what you want to see pictures of, whether it be about me, or Peterborough in general. Ask, and I'll take a picture... :D

YES
MAYBE
NO WAY
Then copy and repost! see who wants to kiss you!
